Braid 8-Dutch Mermaid Side Braid is the perfect way to change your favorite side braid!
A mermaid braid is when smaller strands are pulled into a mesh to create a net-like effect around the rest of the hair. With this Dutch braid the mermaid creates a tubing effect around the middle hair, which is not brought down to the ground in the braid.
When I saw a mermaid braid for the first time, I was absolutely blown away and had to create my own version, the Mermaid Tail Braid.
However, this look is a little slimmer and easier to do. Add in a big headband to give him a beautiful pop of the typical side braid.
There is a video tutorial for this beauty, but here are the steps as well.
Step 1 / Start with your favorite headband and put it about 1/2 “to 1” from the hairline.
Step 2 / Sweep all the hair over your left shoulder and take a strand of hair about 1 “thick in the middle.
Step 3 / Split the cut into three smaller sections and make a stitch of a Dutch weave, crossing the side strands under the middle.
Step 4 / If you cross the left strand below the middle, bring in a hair piece from the right side of the head and insert it into the strand.
Step 5 / If you cross the right strand under the middle, bring one piece of hair from the bottom to the right side of the hair and insert it into the strand.
Step 6 / Bring another section from the right side of the head, cross it over the back of the head and insert it into the braid.
Step 7 / Repeat step 5, bring the hair from below and add it to the strands on the right side.
Step 8 / Continue braiding until all the hair is pulled in.
Step 9 / Bind the braid with an elastic band.
Step 10 / Gently pull on the sides of the braid and hair underneath to make the mermaid effect easier.
