There are 4 main types of hairstyles, and each of them is selected by a barber to face the customer’s face. Some (reversed and central) are suitable for both men and women. Others (focused and frontal) are only applicable to hairstyles by representatives of the beautiful half of humanity.
The choice of the shape of the hairstyle depends on the size and shape of the skull. Basically, this parameter is subjective – here it is largely based on the volumetric perception.
Creating a hairstyle is definitely a creative process. However, if the hairdresser simply wags his scissors and cuts them off thoughtlessly, it is unlikely that the customer will be satisfied with the work.
The basis of any hairstyle is a set of parameters that must be considered as a barber.
There are 4 types of hairstyles: central or falling; backward; concentrated; frontal or front.
If you use a hairdryer with a concentrator nozzle, it is very convenient to use a cylindrical comb with a metal base as it additionally curls the hair when heated with hot air.
Types of hairstyles for men and women
Reverse-type hairstyles. All the hair in this hairstyle is from the face to the back of the head. Most often, this type of hairstyle is chosen by men. This type is suitable for women. As well as centrally, reverse hairstyles can be done on both long and short shots.
Concentrated hairstyle. The entire hair mass, in a concentrated hairstyle, including the hair in the lower part of the neck and neck, is directed from the edge line of growth to the crown. Run this hair can only be long hair, so it is only made for women.
Central or drop-down hair. The hair is focused on natural growth: from above in different directions. The length of the hair does not matter, this type of hair can be made for women and men.
As you can see on the photo above, this type of hairstyle is necessarily done with bangs, so the front part of the hair is always shorter than the rest of the mass.
Frontal or front-type hairstyle. Hair in such hairstyles from neck to forehead. For a frontal hairstyle to be successful, the hair in the lower part of the neck and neck should be quite long. Then they will reach the crown and then gently flow into a short bang. Frontal hairstyles are performed very rarely, mainly as competition works, and they are only suitable for women.
The hairstyle composition is the place of its ingredients. It consists of volume, silhouette and proportion. The hair style composition can be volumetric and planar.
Shape (volume) hairstyles
The form of the hairstyle is its volumetric, three-dimensional perception. One of the most important components of a shape is its geometric shape (for example, a cube, a ball). This parameter depends on the height, width and depth of the hair.
The form (volume) of the hairstyle consists of elements and details, each of which has its own contours. The volume of hair depends on the size of the head.
The set of elements of the hairstyle is its total volume and expresses the emotional qualities of its form.
When modeling a hairstyle, one must pay attention to how its volume relates to the figure, shape of the head, face, neck. The volume of the hairstyle is a subjective indicator, which depends mainly on fashion trends.
Pay attention to the photo: The shapes of the hairstyles at different times were different – then compact, then vague, then flattened, then oversized, then light, then heavy:
Modern fashion allows for a variety of volume hairstyles.
Silhouette hairstyles (silhouette shape)
The silhouette of a hairstyle is its two-dimensional perception, a surface figure bounded by clear contours. The silhouette we see when we look at the hairstyle in profile and full face. Hairdressers often use the term “silhouette hairstyles.” It can be square, triangular, circular, etc.
Silhouette hairstyle is selected depending on the individual characteristics of the appearance and fashion trends.
The surface and contours of the hairstyle form consist of hairstyle lines. They are formed by elements and details of the hair. The lines are reflected in the emotional properties of the hair.
For example, straight lines of separation, pony, outlines give the impression of rigor and clarity. Curls, curls and other elements with broken lines create a frivolous, coquettish, soft image.
Rhythm hairstyle (alternating elements)
Hair rhythm is another important part of its composition. Rhythm – is a certain order of alternation of the individual elements of the hair and the distances between them.
This characteristic hairstyle influences the visual perception of its volumetric form. A variety of rhythms affect the degree of dynamics of the form. For example, an unexpectedly interrupted rhythmic change of certain lines creates a sense of statics and therefore violates the harmony of the hair.
Hair proportions (ratio of parts)
The proportions in hair – the ratio of parts, elements, volumes, lines and sizes of hair among each other and with the human figure. In the hairstyle selection section, examples have been given of how a poorly-selected haircut causes a person to fold excessively, depending on the shape.
When modeling a hairstyle, it is important to consider how the head and hairstyle correlate to the size of a person’s body for all types of shapes and clothing silhouettes.
There is a “golden” formula: The head and the hairstyle should fit 7.5 times in a human figure.
Properties such as symmetry, asymmetry and contrast are important for the hairstyle composition.
Symmetry is achieved by the same arrangement of the same elements relative to a particular point or axis. Due to the symmetry, the composition is balanced.
Asymmetry is opposite to symmetry, meaning that it is achieved due to the different arrangement of identical elements relative to an imaginary axis or point.
Asymmetry gives hairstyle dynamics, novelty, originality. Besides the purely artistic value, it also has practical advantages: it can hide some defects in the structure of the head and face.
Asymmetry is achieved by cutting, coloring or modeling the volumetric shape of the hairstyle. The main thing is that the asymmetrical shape is compositionally balanced.
Contrast is the opposite and at the same time the juxtaposition of different styles of hairstyle. For example, one part of the hairstyle may be bulkier than the other part. Contrast can occur in the color of the hair. Contrast hairstyles are always dynamic, stylish, unexpected.
The hairdresser, who combines symmetry, asymmetry and contrast, creates different images, different styles of hairstyles.
If you use different products for styling the hair (for volume, fixation, smoothness, etc.), apply the thermal protector last.
Compositional (main) center hairstyles
A hairstyle must have a center of composition – the main part where all the elements are connected. In the hairstyle dominates the compositional (main) center, which is placed on value.
In this role can be any element or part of hair: fringes, knots, decoration. For complex hairstyles, the presence of several interconnected composite centers is allowed.
The composition center should be combined organically with other elements of the hairstyle through proportions, rhythm, plasticity, color, proportionality of parts, use of jewelry.
